SEMCO Klimaglas
Transparent climate protection for the architecture of tomorrow
Natural light contributes significantly to our well-being. As it determines our biological rhythm and enhances our performance, letting as much daylight as possible into our living and working spaces is in all our interests. This is also explains the rise in popularity of the expansive glass and window facades of contemporary glass architecture.
Yet “not all glass is created equal”. Even large glass facades should not affect the indoor climate, which has to remain balanced even when exposed to intense sunlight or extreme cold. The selection of multi-function glazing suitable for the whole year is therefore crucial, above all here in Germany, where differences between temperatures in winter and summer can be upwards of 40 degrees Celsius.
Our Klimaglas product family was specially developed to meet such requirements. The premium SEMCO glass category features a totally transparent coating that helps to ideally fulfil the requirements of facades encompassing more than 50% glass - all generally without the need for additional air conditioning.
Protection against overheating in summer
Thermal protection in summer is optimally assured through the minimal g value of SEMCO Klimaglas glazing, which lets daylight enter, but blocks out solar energy and consequently heat. The energy-intensive operation of air conditioning systems in the hot summer months is now effectively a thing of the past. During the cold season, the low Ug value of Klimaglas creates a comfortable indoor climate by reflecting long-wave thermal radiation back into the indoor space.

Daylight
“Light is an essential component of our natural environment. Less daylight causes us to get winter fatigue”, says renowned psychologist, Prof. Jürgen Zulley. Conversely, bright light counters tiredness. Incident light promotes motivation and performance. Various DIN standards accordingly stipulate sufficiently bright lighting and minimum window sizes in the workplace. Another reason to optimally exploit daylight is the scope for sustainable energy conservation. Large windows are consequently more or less an economical necessity.
Most people prefer natural light to the perceived cold atmosphere of halogen lamps and energy-saving bulbs. Studies also show that people who are infrequently exposed to bright daylight are more likely to suffer from depression. So take every opportunity to bring plenty of daylight, including into private living spaces.

Comfort
Personal well-being is a subjective perception that is dependent on a variety of factors. These include the intensity of cognitive and physical activity, clothing worn, the individual physical and mental health of a person, but also the respective environmental influences such as the thermal and material burden, e.g. odours, noise, acoustics, as well as the duration of stay and number of people present in a room.
Due to the body’s distinctly individual sensitivity and adaptability, comfort cannot be uniformly measured. However, it is possible to create room conditions in which the majority of people will feel extremely comfortable. Technical planning of the building must therefore take thermal comfort aspects into consideration, specifically indoor climate and air quality. Essential factors include room air temperature, wall surface temperature as well as relative humidity and air movement within the room. Plenty of daylight, uniform wall surface temperatures and ventilation adequate for the room and outside temperature are decisive factors for creating a high degree of comfort.
SEMCO Klimaglas was specifically developed to maximise the level of comfort within rooms. Our premium glazing also helps promote energy conservation and allows plenty of daylight into the building.
THE SEMCO Klimaglas Portfolio - The right glass for every building project
Despite its excellent solar protection and thermal insulation properties, SEMCO Klimastar 400 offers minimal reflection values and negligible colour change. The innovative coating gives SEMCO Klimastar 400 a light bluish hue, meaning that in its ideal application areas - horizontal glazing, roof lights and sunrooms/conservatories - the glass makes the blue sky look more radiant without affecting the pleasant indoor climate. In the case of south-facing all-glass facades and large window areas, SEMCO Klimastar 400 also keeps heating costs down and makes air conditioning superfluous.
Are you planning a roof glazing or sunroom project? Then why not enjoy the natural panorama. To avoid a heat trap, SEMCO Klimastar 400 was specially developed for roof glazing and sunroom roof applications.
Generous glass facades are a significant contemporary building element that flood your home with natural daylight. No conventional lighting can replace the broad spectral composition of natural daylight. SEMCO Klimastar 500 sets the benchmark for facades with a 75-percent proportion of glass. Thanks to the extremely low Ug value, a minimal amount of heat is lost from the indoor space. The excellent g value comes into play particularly in summer when excessive solar energy is prevented from entering the rooms. Combined with internal shading, air conditioning is no longer required and the facade design fully comes into its own. As a consequence, energy costs are saved and CO2 emissions significantly reduced.
Klimaglas really brings its assets to bear in public and commercial areas. As a result of stricter requirements regarding protection against the summer heat, building owners have to decide whether to accept expensive air conditioning and the darkening of indoor spaces through the use of shades. Create a bright, light-flooded working environment for your customers and employees with Klimaglas and save the energy normally consumed by air conditioning - whether in office buildings, hotels or functional buildings.
Facades with a glass proportion of up to 50 percent allow plenty of natural daylight into rooms and open up views of the natural surroundings. A first and important factor for enhancing indoor comfort. The second is indoor climate. This is where SEMCO Klimastar 600 comes into its own.
On account of the balanced Ug and g values, Klimastar 600 provides a pleasant and comfortable climate throughout the year. With SEMCO Klimastar 600 and an innovative shading system, air conditioning is frequently no longer required.
